The cities are starting to warn us that one of the best times of the year is just around the corner. The lights, the music and the wonderful spirit that fills the streets confirm that Christmas is not far off.
These are days for family, for reunions, for travelling and for the famous trip home for Christmas. A large part of the population packs their bags to return to their home town, while others take advantage of the holidays to travel.
At Trablisa we do not want Christmas to turn sour, so we would like to give you a series of security tips for getting your home ready during the holidays:
1.- Leave the house properly locked: don't let haste be a bad adviser. Check that you have closed every door and every window properly. We also recommend leaving the blinds half raised. Don't leave the slightest gap for thieves.
2.- Turn off the gas and water: the mind can play tricks and sometimes give you a bad time. Is there a leak? Did I turn off the gas? Will everything be all right? Our advice is to always leave the stopcocks closed to avoid bigger scares.
3.- Ask your acquaintances for help: if you are going away for a considerable time, whenever possible it is advisable to have someone drop by the house. Empty the letterbox, water the plants, open and close the blinds, switch some lights on and off. In other words, make sure there is some activity so that it is not too obvious that nobody is at home.
4.- Be careful with 2.0 communication: although it is very tempting to post that Christmassy photo of yourself on social media, it is better to wait and post it when you are back home. It is far too tempting a clue for someone who wants to break into another person's home. If you are spending New Year's Eve in Berlin, you can hardly be at home.
5.- Switch on your alarm: as you probably know, a security alarm is of no use if it is not switched on. Don't forget to do it. Switch on the alarm and calmly enjoy your Christmas getaway.
